Researchers analyzed the use of dating apps among college students. They found that sensation-seeking personalities were highly correlated with the intent of using these apps for romantic and casual sex purposes.
Tinder, Bumble, and Hinge are just a few of the many dating apps that have taken the market by storm. However, it seems that some users are more loyal to their apps than others.
1. The Beautiful One
If you swipe right on her, she will send you messages with beautiful pictures and a charming profile. She’s very sweet and you have long, intense conversations that make you wish you could meet her in person.
However, you’ll quickly notice that she’s only looking for the top 1% of men. She wants a man with six-pack abs, a big salary and a great sense of humor.
She will ask you ridiculously pointed questions about your education, your college and the prestigious companies you worked for. She may even snoop on LinkedIn. She wants to be sure that you are who you say you are. This can be extremely frustrating if you’re trying to find a serious relationship. She’s not interested in casual hookups.
2. The Sweet One
A swiping pro, this girl’s match rate is high. She’s all about the hookup, and you can expect a flood of nude Snapchat photos and messages. She’s also the type to text you nonstop, which may make you wonder if she has a life outside her phone.
She is on a mission to find love, and she will use every app in her arsenal. Luckily for her, dating apps have gotten better about fostering long-term relationships. And results from one study indicate that couples who meet on dating apps have stronger cohabiting intentions than those who met offline.
That said, many queer women (and women of color, short people and older folks) still face challenges on dating apps. The good news is that new options have emerged, like HER, which aims to be a safe, inclusive and supportive community for LGBTQ+ users.
3. The Lonely One
Whether they’re single, divorced or already married, the Lonely One uses dating apps to find friends. She’s not looking for casual sex or serious relationship, but just to fill the empty spaces in her life.
She tends to ask ridiculously pointed questions about your school, college and the prestigious firms you’ve worked for. She also snoops around on your LinkedIn, just to see the full picture.
The good news is, a recent study found that couples who met on a dating app had stronger cohabiting intentions than those who didn’t. However, there are still significant differences between dating app users and non-users, especially in terms of adversarial beliefs and self-control. Nevertheless, there are plenty of apps to choose from that cater to everyone. So, just pick the right one for you.
4. The Married One
Despite being married, this type of woman checks dating apps on a frequent basis. She explains it as a way to keep in touch with friends and meet new people in her area. She also feels that her husband is boring and she wants to experiment a little with other men.
In general, these women don’t feel satisfied with the results of their online activities. They cite a lack of responses and dishonesty from other users as reasons for their dissatisfaction.
On the other hand, there are also men who continue to use these platforms despite being in a relationship or being married. They justify their activity by saying that they want to experiment or that they are waiting for a divorce that will never happen.
5. The Naked One
She’s a bit of a diva on the app, and she’s not afraid to show it. She’ll have photos in a bar, half naked selfies, and she’ll definitely be on the hunt for some serious hookups.
Among people who use dating apps/websites, most say they’re there to find an exclusive romantic partner (64%). But far more men (34%) than women (2%) say they’re using them to cheat on their significant other or for casual sex.
This study is based on a sample of college students, so it’s not exactly representative of the US population. Still, the participants are similar in terms of age, education level, and social class. And the differences between dating app users and non-users are worth exploring. These results can help us understand how and why people use the apps they do.
